Umar Khalid, a member of the United Against Hate association, former student of Jawaharlal Nehru University of Delhi and opposed to the Citizenship Amendment Act, was arrested for conspiracy to have incited the riots in February in the northeast of the capital. This arrest is condemned by NGOs such as Amnesty International, as well as a collective of activists including Prashat Bhushan and Arundhati Roy, who denounce the repression of dissident voices in the government.

The former Haryana deputy and founder of Arya Sabha, Swami Agnivesh died at the age of 80. A defender of a political Hinduism based on the Vedas, he worked for the eradication of forced labor in India through his NGO Bonded Labour Liberation Front, and opposed Prime Minister Modi on many occasions.
