Pour les chiites et les personnalités du 8 Mars (coalition qui s’est formée le 8 mars 2005 en réponse à la Révolution du Cèdre), la « neutralité » est un moyen détourné de prendre le parti des ennemis de l’Iran et faire le jeu des Américains et, à travers eux, des Israéliens. Le chef du Conseil supérieur chiite Abdel Amir Kabalan a pris position contre la neutralité demandée depuis plus de deux semaines par le patriarche maronite Béchara Raï. Le Liban, selon lui, subit une agression internationale, régionale et locale pour tantôt l’affamer, tantôt « faire assumer à la Résistance la responsabilité de la crise économique, et à évoquer la neutralité du Liban comme sortie de crise ». La neutralité telle qu’il la conçoit, c’est « la logique du Prophète Mohammad et de Jésus, de prendre le parti de la justice, de défendre un pays qui est égorgé par l’épée du blocus économique, de défendre les causes des opprimés, de remercier ceux qui ont combattu et libéré la terre et sont morts en martyrs pour elle », dans une défense du Hezbollah. Emboîtant le pas à son père, le mufti cheikh Ahmad Kabalan a répondu implicitement au cardinal Raï qui a dit espérer une résolution du Conseil de sécurité sur la neutralité du Liban. Selon lui, le Conseil de Sécurité et l’ONU n’ont jamais été utiles au Libanais. Le pays n’a, par conséquent, pas besoin de faire appel à eux. Il « n’est pas à vendre », car il est la « seule couverture pour les Libanais », a-t-il déclaré. Enfin, il a rappelé que les chiites sont majoritaires au Liban et qu’ils sont une composante historique et un partenaire essentiel au fil des siècles : « nous sommes ceux qui l’ont libéré, nous représentons une garantie pour son indépendance, sa souveraineté et son existence. Nous avons vaincu l’occupation sioniste puis la plus grande campagne takfiriste américaine », en allusion au groupe État islamique. La neutralité divise assurément les Libanais. Elle entraîne aussi, selon le camp du 8 Mars et les chiites, le Liban contre une partie de sa population. Le chef druze du Parti socialiste progressiste, Walid Joumblatt, a parlé d’un très grand conflit entre les nations pour le Proche-Orient et le Liban. Dans ce contexte, il a recommandé à sa communauté de s’incliner au passage de la tempête, car c’est le seul moyen de résister.

It is "not for sale" because it is the "only cover for the Lebanese", he said. Finally, he recalled that the Shiites are the majority in Lebanon and that they are a historical component and an essential partner over the centuries :"We are the ones who liberated it, we represent a guarantee for its independence, its sovereignty and its existence. We have defeated the Zionist occupation and then the biggest American Takfirist campaign”, he said, referring to the Islamic State group. Neutrality certainly divides the Lebanese. It also pushes, according to the March 8 camp and the Shiites, Lebanon against a part of its population. The Druze leader of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Joumblatt, spoke of a very big conflict between nations over the Middle East and Lebanon. In this context, he urged his community to “bow to the storm”, because that is the only way to resist.
