Il y a quinze ans, le 2 juin 2005, Samir Kassir est mort dans l’explosion de son Alfa Romeo alors qu’il se rendait à son bureau. Grande signature du quotidien libanais An-Nahar, il était une figure de proue de l’Alliance du 14 Mars 2005 (coalition politique contre la présence syrienne). Farouche défenseur de la liberté et de la souveraineté du Liban, son legs reste une actualité pour le peuple libanais désireux d’un avenir meilleur. Critique du mouvement du 14 Mars « dans une volonté de le voir rectifier le tir et éviter l’échec », il aurait été aujourd’hui, selon son compagnon de route Nabil Bou Monsef, beaucoup plus critique vis-à-vis de la révolte du 17 octobre dernier tant elle est divisée en plusieurs factions politiques, sociales et économiques.
L’appel du cheikh jaafarite, Ahmad Kabala, la semaine dernière, à abolir le système confessionnel et à le remplacer par une véritable citoyenneté continue de susciter des réactions. Cette fois-ci, il s’agit des évêques maronites et du patriarche Mgr Béchara Raï. Ce dernier, sans nommer le mufti, a défendu le système institutionnel libanais. Le Liban – a souligné le cardinal – représente un modèle politique qui respecte toutes les communautés de foi, sans imposer une religion d'Etat ou un livre religieux déterminé comme source des lois. « Il s'agit d'un modèle singulier, qui doit être protégé par ceux qui, sous le prétexte de vouloir en corriger les défauts, visent en réalité à annihiler sa féconde anormalité », a-t-il déclaré.
Des cours de formation agricole pour jeunes sont lancés par le patriarche maronite au monastère Saints-Sarkis-et-Bakhos (Rayfoun), siège du Centre patriarcal pour le développement humain. « Une maisonnée qui perd la mère de famille devient difficile à réunir » a déclaré Mgr Raï, encourageant les Libanais à prendre soin de leur terre.
Soulignant les violations de son espace aérien par l’armée israélienne, le président de la République Michel Aoun a demandé une prolongation du mandat de la FINUL au Liban. Le pays du Cèdre espère ainsi pouvoir récupérer les fermes de Chébaa, la partie Nord du village de Ghajar ou encore trouver une solution aux revendications israéliennes de son espace maritime.

One of the biggest names of the Lebanese daily An-Nahar, he was a leading figure in the Alliance of March 14, 2005 (political coalition against the Syrian presence). A fierce defender of Lebanon’s freedom and sovereignty, his legacy is still relevant for the Lebanese people who want a better future. Critical of the March 14 movement "in a desire to see it correct the situation and avoid failure", according to his fellow traveller, Nabil Bou Monsef, he would have been today much more critical of the revolt of last October 17 as it is divided into several political, social and economic factions.
The call by Jaafarite Sheikh Ahmad Qabala last week to abolish the confessional system and replace it with a real citizenship continues to provoke reactions. This time, it is the Maronite bishops and the Patriarch Mgr Bechara Raï. The latter, without naming the Mufti, defended the Lebanese institutional system. Lebanon - stressed the Cardinal - represents a political model which respects all faith communities, without imposing a state religion or a determined religious book as the source of the laws. "It is a singular model, which must be protected by those who, on the pretext of wanting to correct its faults, actually aim to annihilate its fruitful abnormality," he said.
Agricultural training courses for young people are launched by the Maronite Patriarch at the Saints-Sarkis-and-Bakhos monastery (Rayfoun), headquarter of the Patriarchal Center for Human Development. "A household that loses the mother becomes difficult to reunite," said Mgr Rai, encouraging the Lebanese to take care of their land.
Underlining the violations of its airspace by the Israeli army, the President of the Republic Michel Aoun asked for an extension of the mandate of UNIFIL in Lebanon. The land of Cedars thus hopes to be able to recover the farms of Sheba, the Northern part of the village of Ghajar or even find a solution to the Israeli claims of its maritime space.
